Ask smart question to recruiter

Cut Through the BS.

yawn... boring question.

Let’s be real – when the interviewer asks “Do you have any questions?” they’re not hoping to hear about casual Fridays or whether they have a ping pong table.

The Questions That Make Recruiters Think “Damn, This One’s Different”

Interview your interviewer:

“What’s your team’s biggest challenge right now?”

Their answer tells you two things: what you’re actually walking into, and whether they’re honest enough to admit they have problems. Because trust me, every team has problems.

“How do you measure success for this role in the first 90 days?”

If they can’t answer this clearly, it probably means they don’t know what they want. And good luck figuring that out after you’ve started.

“What happened to the last person in this role?”

Did they get promoted? Jump ship? This tells you more about your future than any corporate values statement ever will.

“How does the company handle disagreements?”

Watch carefully. If they get uncomfortable or give you some corporate speak about “alignment,” you might want to think twice.

Money Talk (Because Bills Don’t Pay Themselves)

Let’s stop pretending we’re all here just for the experience. You need to know:

  • The salary range (yes, it’s okay to ask)
  • When and how they review compensation
  • What actually drives those bonuses they keep mentioning

Real Talk

You’re about to spend more time with these people than with your own family. Might as well find out if it’s going to be a train wreck before you’re strapped in for the ride.

Keep these questions handy – don’t be that person staring blankly when it’s your turn to ask questions. And if any of these questions make them squirm? Well, better to know now than three months in when you’re updating your resume in secret.

And hey, recruiters – we know you’re reading this. We get it, you have scripts to follow. But maybe, just maybe, try some honesty. We can handle it.

Time to go ask some questions that matter. Your future self will thank you.
